Lowering Your Blood Pressure by Losing Weight

High blood pressure is one of the leading causes of death nowadays. It is also known as the silent killer which could strike unexpectedly. Although there are many ways to lower your blood pressure, one of the easiest ways to do it is by losing weight. Did you know that by losing 10 pounds you can drop your BP by 5%? By making little changes to your lifestyle you can lower your pressure in a matter of 24 hours. I want to discuss some ways you can do this easily and effectively.

By cutting sodas and sugary drinks from your diet you can easily lose 5 pounds in a matter of two weeks. Drinks like sodas and energy drinks are high in sugar, and can put a lot of weight on you very quickly. Try to drink nothing but water. Water is an excellent tool in lowering your pressure, and will aid significantly in helping you lose weight.

Next, try to lay off of the salt. Too much sodium will make you retain water and will make you gain weight, not to mention it is not good for the heart either. Try to cut your salt portions rationally, and if you can use salt substitutes. Salt substitutes are great for people with increased blood pressure, and it contains potassium which aids in lowering the blood’s pressure.

Last, you must remember to exercise. Try to do at least 20 minutes or more of mildly strenuous exercise. This will increase the speed of the blood in the arteries as well as expand the artery walls to unblock the build up. Light running or power walking is great exercise for anyone with high blood pressure.

By making these slight changes to your lifestyle you will achieve that 120/80 that you’ve been looking for. Remember, it is vital to keep your blood pressure under control and if need be you may have to take medication. Keep your blood pressure in check for a long healthy life.

Natural Remedies

Have you ever tried a natural or herbal remedy to cure a condition or possibly for everyday usage? Some people think of herbal remedies are a ruse to lure people in and buy products. However now a days even medical doctors are realizing the benefits of natural herbal remedies.  Herbs have been in use for over 5,000 years with several different cultures including Sumerian, Greek, Egyptian, Arabian, Roman, German, Swiss, and English.

The western culture has been using herbal medicine for thousands of years making herbalism one of the oldest forms of medicine. Additionally it is possibly one of the most widespread medicines with about 80% of the worlds population still using herbal medicine. Herbal medicine unlike conventional medicine is not only used for treatment of symptoms or conditions. Herbal medicine prevents diseases and illnesses, maintains proper daily body functioning and enhances mental attitude, appearance and performance. Herbal remedies can be used to help in areas such as digestion, respiratory, circulation, immune, endocrine, nervous system, detoxification, and externally for the skin, hair and nails. Herbal experimentation has been the basis for both Indian herbal medicine known as Ayurvedic and Chinese herbal medicine.

Chinese herbal medicine reflects Chinese belief that the universe is made up of energy called chi. Additionally human beings have an innate relationship with the world and environment surrounding them through chi; the human body is a small universe within itself made up of complex systems of energy and matter that works to maintain health of body and mind. Chinese herbal medicine is the primary therapeutic modality for internal medicine in China. This is used in conjunction with external modalities such as acupuncture, acupressure, massage, tai chi, meditation, dermabrasion and food therapy. With over 500 Chinese herbs, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) combines herbs to create specific formulas to fit the individual patient.

Indian herbal medicine also known as Ayurvedic medicine and is the oldest organized system of medicine. Today we classify it as a complementary and alternative medicine but to Indians is known as the divine medicine due to its long history. Ayurvedic is grounded in the understanding that the universe and the body are composed of five great elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Ether. Additionally Ayurveda stresses the importance of balance through three elemental energies. Everyone possesses these energies or doshas as they are known. These doshas are important because when they are balanced within the body, then you are healthy, but when they become imbalanced the body possesses diseases. Ayurveda stresses the importance of a healthy metabolic system, proper digestion, and proper excretion to lead to vitality. In addition exercise, yoga, meditation and massage maintain the external body. Therefore, Ayurvedic medicine addresses the body, mind and spirit as a whole for perfect health.

Herbal medicine no matter where it is being used derives from the earth’s plants. A natural remedy can use any part of that plant, the root, the stem, the flower, the seeds, even the liquid inside the plant. This is why there are so many herbs that exist because from each plant there can be several different herbs extracted and several different uses as well. Herbal remedies come in all types of forms such as a pill, capsule, gel, ointment, cream, liquid, oil, or tea. Many common herbal remedies can be found right under our noses in our very own kitchens. Such as garlic, cinnamon, ginger, peppermint, tumeric, and chamomile tea. Herbal supplements can be taken singularly or mixed together to achieve a specific result.  Common conditions that have found relief through herbal remedies include angina, arthritis, skin care, thyroid, urinary tract infections and many more. New products are coming out that help for additional problems such as smoking cessation, removing unwanted hair, and eliminating wrinkles.

The switch to herbal and natural medicine has been a long and slow process, however the population as a whole has shown a shift from traditional medicine with prescriptions and nasty side effects to natural, organic products. With more and more healthcare practitioners promoting more natural ways to relieve symptoms, herbal medicine is making its official debut into modern medicine. Why wait to go see a doctor to get a prescription that costs outrageous amounts of money that could cause them additional symptoms? Natural herbal remedies can be bought at the local store or you may already have it in your kitchen cabinet.  So why not try a natural herbal remedy to treat your problem? It may change the way you live your life.

If you are unsure whether an herbal remedy is right for you, ask your healthcare profession for help.

Stroke Treatment: Preventing High Blood Pressure

Are you looking for information about stroke treatment and stroke prevention? Are you looking for information about risk factors of stroke and how to reduce your risk factors of stroke? Then this article is for you. This article will provide a brief definition of a stroke and provide information about the most important risk factor for stroke, which is high blood pressure. This article will also provide information about stroke treatment and prevention

A cerebrovascular accident (CVA), commonly referred to as a stroke, is the rapidly developing loss of brain function(s) due to disturbance in the blood supply to the brain. This can be due to lack of blood flow, a hemorrhage or caused by a blockage. As a result of the brain not receiving proper blood supply, the affected area is not able to function, leading to inability to understand or formulate speech, inability to move one side of the body or one or more limbs or an inability to see one part of the visual field. There are various forms of stroke treatment including rehabilitation, physical therapy and more but this article will focus on stroke prevention as opposed to stroke treatment as well as answer questions about high blood pressure.

What is Blood Pressure?
Blood pressure is the force of blood as it pushes against artery walls. When blood pressure is above normal levels it is referred to as hypertension. Stroke treatment or prevention measures are intended to help reduce high blood pressure and risk of stroke.

What is High Blood Pressure?
High blood pressure means that an individual’s heart is pumping harder than normal to move blood through the individual’s body. High blood pressure can damage major organs, such as the brain, as well as weaken blood vessels. If an individual with high blood pressure does not treat it, they are more likely to suffer a stroke.

An individual’s blood pressure will occasionally vary with stress or exercise but for people over the age of 18, an ideal blood pressure reading is 120/80 or lower. Individuals who have readings, which are higher than 120/80 are considered to have “pre-hypertension.” Individuals who suffer from hypertension or high blood pressure have more than twice the lifetime risk of suffering a stroke and requiring stroke treatment relative to individuals who consistently maintain an acceptable blood pressure.

Who Has High Blood Pressure?
According to the National Stroke Association, as many as 73 million Americans suffer from high blood pressure and over 30 percent of these individuals are unaware that they have high blood pressure.

How are Stroke and High Blood Pressure Related?
Doctors and nurses throughout the world have long called high blood pressure or hypertension the “silent killer” because individuals can have high blood pressure for years without ever showing symptoms. If high blood pressure is not treated in can lead to numerous life-threatening medical issues such as heart attack, stroke or kidney failure. Stroke treatment or prevention measures will help reduce an individual’s blood pressure and risk for stroke.

High blood pressure or hypertension is the most prevalent cause of stroke due to the unnecessary stress it puts on blood vessel walls, which causes them to thicken and deteriorate. This unnecessary stress and blood vessel deterioration can ultimately lead to stroke and accelerated risk of heart disease. Individuals who have suffered a stroke and are undergoing stroke treatment should work hard to reduce their blood pressure and ultimately their risk of recurrent stroke.

Most people agree that fractions are a bugbear in mathematics. Wherever they rear their ugly heads, they wreak havoc on both novice and expert alike. So how can we show that the non-terminating repeating decimal 0.999… is exactly equal to the number 1? That is what we are going to explore right now.

The arithmetic is not enough to share with mathematical relationships, such as the Pythagorean Theorem that the sum of the squares of the lengths of the shorter sides of a triangle the square of the length of the long side corresponding to states to overcome.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could find a way to improve your math skills – without doing math? Strange as it may sound,Colleges and employers highly value the results from math exams. A top grade in mathematics shows you are somebody who can think clearly, follow instructions, solve problems,

The functions chapter covers all of the essential function properties from previous algebra courses. Functions can be represented in many different ways, Well, maybe to you pal. Yes, it is just a bunch of shapes but I did not enjoy my tryst with geometry in high school. I could never remember those darn equations and they didn’t make sense to me anyways.

Let’s define math. Mathematics is the study of quantity, structure, space, and change. Does that sound confusing already? There are lots of children who need special care and attention with their studies. The attention received at school is sometimes inadequate, and children need a little more guidance to help them cope.

Trigonometric functions are a special set of relationships that are derived from geometric triangles. They are first introduced in high school algebra and geometry, Getting a job isn’t easy in the current economic climate and people who only speak English are limited to the English-speaking world.

It has been said before that to truly conquer your fear, you must put a name to it and understand it. On many levels, the anxiety that students feel walking in to a math test situation becomes irrational.Children are known to learn best through various tutoring methods. These tuitions can be given to the child in many ways.

Is it the math tutor’s knowledge that makes their tutoring work for your child, or are there other factors that are critical too?I am currently working on my mathematics degree online. I try not to brag about it, but I cannot help it. Of all things! Mathematics is a subject feared by many and those who like it also know it can be very frustrating at times working through those tough problems.

How the Mediterranean Diet Beats High Blood Pressure

The Mediterranean diet is not some new fad diet … dreamed up by a weight-loss “guru” or as a new health measure. It is thousands of years old. People living along the Mediterranean Sea have been eating a natural diet … that has been proven in numerous studies to reduce the risk of heart attack and keep blood pressure from rising.

The great thing about the Mediterranean diet is … it’s a pleasure to eat and you’re much more likely to stick with it. It’s easy to adopt this diet as there are no special requirements. Unlike the radical requirements of many fad diets, the Mediterranean diet doesn’t ask you to make impractical changes in your eating … it offers you a way of eating that you can maintain long-term. It will lead you to long-term health benefits.

What is a Mediterranean Diet

Amongst the people of Greece, southern France, and parts of Italy … natural whole foods are a large part of the diet. Fruits and vegetables, fish, nuts, and olive oil are the heavy hitters in protecting your heart and lowering your blood pressure. Drinking wine with meals is an old custom … and gives even more health benefits.

The Mediterranean diet doesn’t look at all fats as bad. Instead, this way of eating makes wise choices in the fats that are used. Low in saturated fat … the Mediterranean diet is full of healthy omega-3 fatty acids and monounsaturated fats.

Since mainly whole foods are eaten along the Mediterranean Sea … the deadly trans-fats — found in fast foods and bakery goods — are greatly reduced.

Living on a Sea Gives you Lots of Fish

Fish are a big part of the Mediterranean diet. Eating lots of fish has been recognized as being heart protective for quite a while, now. Especially, fatty fish are good for your heart and blood pressure … they are full of healthy omega-3 fatty acids.

Eating fish 2-3 times a week is a great way to lower blood pressure and ensure a long, healthy life.

Lots of Olive Trees Grow Along the Mediterranean Sea

Olive trees grow on sunny hillsides … providing both tasty olives and golden olive oil. Olive oil is used in most Mediterranean cooking … drizzled on rough chunks of whole-grain bread, mixed in salads, used in making tomato sauces. The flavonoids in virgin olive oil lower blood pressure and increase your levels of good HDL cholesterol.

That … and olive oil tastes great and gives off a wonderful fragrance when heated.

Nuts Are an Ancient Energy Source

Since the Stone Age, nuts have been an important source of energy. Shunned a few decades ago because of their high fat content … nuts were given a bum rap. The fats in nuts are good fats … healthy fats that will lower your blood pressure and protect your heart.

Just a handful of nuts — especially walnuts — is a tasty way to protect your heart.

Wash Your Meal Down With a Glass of Red Wine

A glass of red wine goes great with Mediterranean meals. Your heart will also enjoy the glass of wine. Red wine is rich in healthy flavonoids — anti-oxidants that protect your heart from dangerous free radicals. Enjoy a daily glass or two and lower your blood pressure … lower your risk of heart attack.

Recent studies have shown that light red wine drinkers have less risk than non-drinkers. Just don’t over-do it.

A Great Diet to Start Today

The main feature of the Mediterranean diet is the focus on natural whole foods … a shift away from unhealthy processed foods with their dangerous bad fats. And, the good thing is … it’s so easy to get started. Nothing radical … just ask those who live healthy lives along the Mediterranean Sea.

Eating Your Way to Reduce Hypertension

High blood pressure has no symptoms, but it can lead to the leading killers in this country, such as heart attack or stroke, aneurysms, and kidney failure.  The good news is you can make healthy lifestyle changes that will help control it and keep you off medications which we all know have side effects.

Here are some ways to eat to reduce hypertension:

1.  Eat lots of vegetables, some fruit (limit 2 servings per day), whole grains and low-fat or fat-free dairy products.

2.  Limit red meat.  It is very difficult for your body to digest red meat.  Instead, choose chicken or fish or try buffalo meat.

3.  Cut back on sodium and keep to 1,500 mg. or less per day.  One half teaspoon of salt contains 1,200 mg., so watch for sodium in processed foods and learn to season your food with fresh lemon, herbs, and salt-free seasonings.

4.  Eat potassium-rich foods like bananas (eat 1/2 of the banana and share the other half), acorn squash, dried apricots and peaches, prunes, spinach, Swiss chard, and low-sodium tomato juice.  Potassium has been shown to lower systolic (the top number) by about 5 points and diastolic (the lower number) by about 3 points.

5.  Eat more high fiber foods because it will reduce your risk of developing insulin resistance and weight gain both of which are factors for having high blood pressure.  Aim for 25-30 grams of fiber per day.

6.  Drink alcohol in moderation.  This means 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of red wine or 1.5 ounces of alcohol which can lower your risk for heart disease and hypertension.

7.  Limit caffeine – caffeine does raise blood pressure by tightening blood vessels and can actually magnify the effects of stress.  When you are under stress, your heart starts pumping a lot more blood and caffeine exaggerates this process.

Of course, oneof the best techniques for lowering blood pressure and preventing hypertension is to practice relaxation techniques like meditation, yoga or tai chi.  These types of exercises calm the nervous system that can lower blood pressure naturally by slowing down your breathing rate.  Find an instructor and class you can enjoy, look forward to, and attend on a regular basis.

The most important factor to consider when trying to reduce hypertension is to do whatever you can to lose weight.  How can you do it?  Eat less and exercise more.  A tiny drop in blood pressure can reduce strokes and heart disease dramatically, saving thousands of lives each year.

Should You Consider Alternative Medicine For Pets? Find Out Now

Alternative medicine for pets is about two important things.

1. Treating and preventing health problems that commonly affect pet animals like dogs and cats using natural remedies.

2. Strengthening their immune system and increasing their vitality so that they stay healthy for a long time.

Why consider alternative pet health supplements?

Alternative medications, herbal and homeopathic medications in particular, are very effective. Unlike most other types of medications, they do not treat just the symptoms of a health problem. They also treat the cause of the problem. Also, these medications mostly contain herbs and other medicinal plants which are completely natural. So, unlike some prescription drugs, they do not cause any allergic reactions or other such side effects.

What to look for?

Some of the most important ingredients you should look for in alternative pet health supplements include Indian ginseng, mistletoe, milk thistle, and Huang Qi. These herbs are known for their ability to boost the immune system of pet animals like dogs and cats. They have been used by naturopathy practitioners across the world for hundreds of years.

Alternative medicine for pets – are they a better alternative to conventional pet medications?

We cannot say that for sure. These medications are surely effective. But they cannot replace conventional medications completely. There are a lot of health problems in pets which can be treated only with conventional medications. These natural remedies are definitely a good nutritional supplement for your pets. But in case of a severe health problem, you should always consult your vet and act according to his advice.

Pet health – important things to consider

Beyond making sure your pet always has fresh water, plenty of exercise and mental stimulation such as play, diet is the next important component. There are over 40 nutrients required for a sound diet. These are difficult to replicate in home prepared meals and should be either purchased via a high quality AAFCO certified pet food or via recipes prepared by a veterinary nutritionist. Randomly providing foods is sure to miss important vitamins and minerals.

As an added layer of protection, a natural supplement can help the body help itself. As pet owners, we are all adjusting our diets for better help by taking a multi-vitamin, drinking juices or other positive steps. For pets, these same approaches and the use of natural supplements designed for pets can be helpful.

Jeff Grill is a pet enthusiast, publisher, and webmaster. Jeff grew up with a natural curiosity regarding how nutrition and supplements impact human health, and the health of the dogs and cats that are so important to our lives. He is an advocate for natural medicine and publishes many articles on how to blend conventional and homeopathic (natural) approaches to achieving wellness. You can learn more about natural approaches to pet health at the following site – alternative medicine for pets. You can also read more at the site the author edits which is the Dog Health Handbook.

Do You Want to Try a Natural Alternative Medicine For Pets?

Are you concerned about your pets health and do not want to use traditional medicine? Have you known someone whose pet benefited from homeopathic remedies? Or perhaps want to start seeing a holistic veterinarian for your pets and want some information? Whatever your reason, alternative medicine can work as well as traditional medicines for your pet, especially for long term health.

Let’s talk about the first reason; you want to try an alternative medicine for your pet. Although conventional medicine has its place, holistic therapies have been working for hundreds of years. Some people are not aware that both conventional and holistic medicines can work together. For instance, after using an antibiotic, you or your vet can implement a holistic alternative pet health supplementation plan to boost the immune system to help prevent further illness.

Many people use holistic methods for their pets, perhaps because homeopathy worked for them or a friend had good results and now want to try the same for their pets. Many supplements that people use can also be used by pets; for instance, glucosamine for joints, vitamin e for healthy coat and skin, etc.

Holistic vets most often combine traditional and alternative pet health methods to maintain your pet’s physical condition in top shape. They may use vaccines, prescription drugs in an illness, but use vitamins, herbs and other forms of nutrition that is designed for each individual pet. Holistic veterinary medicine looks at the whole pet including his or her lifestyle, and the heredity components of each breed so that its physical needs are taken into consideration as well as the pet’s mental happiness.

If your pet is suffering from an illness that requires immediate attention, then a holistic vet would use the conventional options. But, if your pet is plagued with chronic conditions which linger or occur often, then alternative medicine for pets will provide more choices for long term pet health.

Understanding Alternative And Complementary Medicine

Alternative medicine is a way to practice health care in a different way than the clinical medicine way, instead using natural remedies. This can be including supplementing your nutrition with herb or vitamin supplements, following a special natural diet or applying different kinds of approaches which, in general, clinical doctors would not think about.

A patient who suffers a lot from migraine attacks might decide that a small adjustment to the diet can be more useful than going to the doctor’s office and being prescribed some painkillers.

Normally when we are having symptoms of some kind, we go to a conventional doctor who will examine you, make the diagnoses if possible and the doctor will provide treatment which often contains drugs, again if possible.

These diagnoses and treatments are all based on studies, clinical trials and developed over time by observation. This is the way we are used to dealing with our inconveniences in the modern Western part of the world.

However the ancient Eastern cultures have had a different kind of approach for many years. They have developed all sorts of medical treatments over a great period of time which are called alternative or complementary medicine. This type of practicing medicine is being accepted in the Western culture little by little.

The reason for this little acceptance is because in the Western cultures we tend to rely on studies and clinical trials etc. for our information, when in Eastern culture people rely on each other for testimonials. If Grandpa says to put a certain herb in your tea to get rid of your nausea, than that is what you will do and see if it helps.

Complementary medicine is a little bit more popular than alternative medicine and the reason is that complementary medicine is being used together with clinical medical practice as we know it. A simple example is to improve a patient’s state of mind by using aromatherapy in the recovery room after surgery.

Alternative medicine on the other hand is more often practised on its own and used to replace conventional medicine, without any “real” doctors interfering. The advice for treatments is usually retrieved from people telling people and just trying it out. That seems scary for some people.

What people often don’t realize is that they are often already applying alternative medicine in their everyday difficulties. We all know that putting ice on a swollen ankle helps to reduce the swelling or that you pour vinegar over a jellyfish sting in order to take away the pain.

Knowing this actually shows that there is not really a big difference between complementary and alternative medicine. Practitioners of alternative medicine are dreaming of working together with family doctors in order to provide a combination of treatments where the patient ends up having great results.

It’s the researchers who are dividing the camps, putting labels on treatments. They tend to have a better attitude towards a treatment as long as there is some scientific evidence to back the results.
